What is a Gran Fondo?
Gran Fondo is an Italian term which loosely translates as "Big Ride". Riders ranging from professional to recreational cyclists are encouraged to participate in this event for camaraderie, scenic views, and the chance to win prices.
The King of the Mountains (KoM; Gran Premio della Montagna or GPM in Italian) is the title given to the best climber. For women's cycling, a similar term, Queen of the Mountains (QoM) is used.
Alternatively, King / Queen of the Mountains may also apply to the owner of the fastest time traversing a Strava segment.
Fondue is a dish served in a communal pot over a portable stove heated with a candle or spirit lamp, and eaten by dipping eatables using long-stemmed forks. It was popularized in North America in the 1960s.
